Hope you don’t miss The Great Alaska Sportsman Show in Anchorage, April 7-April 10. Admission is $10 for adults and $2 for children (12 and under). Parking is $5 or you can park elsewhere and take a free shuttle, info (907)562-9911.
The Little Ones Let this be the only way you use the phrase "The Little Ones" this fishing season! We’re not talkin’ fish here we’re talkin, kid-o’s! Don’t forget how much fun it is as a little one to catch a fish! Be sure to include your special kid-o in the fishing action. Check the table in your copy of Fishing Alaska Guide eBook for the right time and right place to go. Though children vary in individual interest and capabilities it is recommended ages 2-6 go for grayling, rainbows and dollies. Beginning at around age 8 it’s time to bring on the silvers and pinks! Of course teaching good sportsmanship and keeping Alaska beautiful by packing out what you pack in, applies to all ages. Remember this is NOT your day! Keep the focus on your kid-o’s success. You had yesterday and there is always tomorrow. Set out with no expectations other than having a good time. Don’t forget your camera and plenty of snacks and drink, some disposable wipes could be very handy too. As Fishing Alaska Guide eBook tells you, don’t forget the bug-dope! Check to see that yours is also safe for little ones. A great time is to be had by all with a little advanced planning. Memories made on an outing such as this, last a lifetime and grow more adventurous as told! (Much like those one- that-got-away stories)!
Spring Tip: TOP SECRET
Spring Rainbows want salmon eggs. Eggs may not be legal but you can make the next best thing. Start with 7-8mm transparent orange beads, paint a layer of light pink almost white fingernail polish over parts of the bead allowing some orange to show also. If you will be fishing where pegging is legal, peg the bead above the hook with a toothpick, breaking off the excess. Or, heat the eye and stem of your hook and push the bead down the stem of the hook. If using fly-line be sure to use sinking tip line. For rod-reel fishing place a split shot wt. about 3ft above the hook. Cast upstream allowing your line to drift freely downstream; if your line stops set the hook or if you feel a tug set the hook. Keep repeating. Also try fishing beadhead nymphs and leaches if fly fishing. Some of the other methods in the eBook work great also if spin fishing. We hope you enjoy Fishing Alaska Guide Newsletter, be sure to share it with a friend.
